The film draws children's attention to nature conservation — presenting the Siberian taiga as "the green lungs of the planet" — while exploring coming-of-age themes and generational conflict through the story of a teenager learning to take responsibility for the world around him.
Mission
14-year-old city boy Mishka travels with his grandfather and the grandfather's hunting friends into the Siberian taiga, where the men are illegally logging timber alongside their hunting. Separated from the group, Mishka stumbles into a trap set by the Mother Guardian of the forest and finds himself in the hut of three mysterious women. To escape this mystical captivity, he must complete a quest through the taiga and learn to understand and love the forest as a living organism. His encounter with the magical being transforms him: back home, he stands up to protect the taiga and tries to change his grandfather's mind.
